Our Ph.D. student Andreas Backhaus developed a new synthesis method for creating gold nanoparticles covered with a lipid bilayer, which could lower their cost and improve production efficiency. This process uses sodium oleate to create gold nanoparticles without needing a seed, allowing precise size control at high concentrations in an aqueous synthesis. The technique can be implemented using standard laboratory equipment and simplifies purification procedures. The resulting gold nanoparticles are stable, suitable for large-scale production, and applicable to various medical and scientific uses. Additionally, the method allows for easy modification of the nanoparticles for different applications.
