Yale Planetary Solutions, in collaboration with the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, will host a four-day program to spotlight and drive forward scalable and transformative climate solutions. The events will take place at The Yale Club of New York City during Climate Week NYC, an international summit held in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly to drive climate action.
Yale @ Climate Week NYC will convene thought leaders, activists, and innovators along with Yale faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends from across the university’s schools and disciplines. Through a series of panels, workshops, symposia, performances, and events, participants will challenge the status quo and advance on planetary solutions through inquiry and innovation, policy and action, and community engagement and empowerment.
Green chemistry will take center stage on September 26, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM ET, during the 2024 Green Chemistry Challenge Awards Ceremony. These awards, co-sponsored by the U.S. Environment Protection Agency’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention and the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute®, highlight chemical technologies that incorporate green chemistry principles in design, manufacturing, and use, recognizing both environmental and economic benefits.
The following day, on September 27, from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM ET, The Science of Solutions: Addressing Climate Change Through Green Chemistry will showcase how green chemistry and green engineering provide innovative solutions crucial to avoiding the worst impacts of climate change. The event will emphasize the need for policy-makers, business leaders, and the public to understand what can be implemented today and the potential for emerging technologies in the near term to tackle environmental challenges. Featuring world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs, such as Walter Leitner, Stafford Sheehan, Marcos Bitew, and Paul Anastas, this panel will highlight the imperative of adopting green chemistry solutions at scale to confront climate issues.
