Shida Miao got his PhD degree from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. During his PhD study, he was sent to the University of Minnesota as a visiting student in 2007. Then he worked at Chinese Academy of Science as an assistant professor for about three years. From 2012 to 2014, Shida Miao worked at the University of Akron as a postdoctoral researcher. Shida Miao focused on bio-based products, especially lipid-based chemicals and materials. Shida Miao developed new biosurfactants and materials with rhamnolipids as platform molecules. With soybean oil as feedstock, Shida Miao synthesized serials of chemicals and functional materials. From 2014 to present, Shida Miao works at the Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering at Yale. His major task is to separate and characterize the chemicals from tobacco and renewable resources.
