GCE-GSC 75: Global Green Chemistry Imitative and Sustainable Development
Tuesday, June 11 at 3:35 pm
Lake Audubon, Hyatt Regency Reston
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Center for Green Chemistry & Green Engineering at Yale University are leading the Global Green Chemistry Initiative [GGCI]. The GGCI project is funded by the Global Environment Facility and includes many partners, organizations and governments from around the world, including National Cleaner Production Centers from Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Peru, Serbia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. The Initiative aims to increase the global awareness and capacities on deployable Green Chemistry approaches for the design of products and processes, and in doing so, contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.While Green Chemistry has touched virtually all sectors of society and industry ranging from agriculture to energy to building materials to cleaners, these accomplishments have taken place largely in the industrialized nations of the world. There are currently only nascent efforts to advance green chemistry in a small number of developing countries and economies in transition with the lack of awareness of green chemistry and its potential as the single largest barrier to broad-based adoption. The dissemination of Green Chemistry is an important step to advance sustainable development in these countries. In this presentation, we will provide an update of our Initiative at its Year-3 mark.
