Leah Butler graduated magna cum laude from the University of California Berkeley with a BA in environmental science in 2006. As a student, she conducted a multi-year research project on the role of civil society in influencing international trade disputes and environmental policies. She also studied rainforest conservation in Ecuador and marine biology in Denmark. After graduating, Leah joined the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where she managed the investigation and cleanup of hazardous waste sites in Arizona and on Hopi and Navajo lands.  Subsequently, she served as a life scientist in EPA’s Wetlands Office where she protected the aquatic resources of California and Arizona from the impacts of urbanization. At Yale, she is studying international environmental policy and is working towards a dual Masters of Environmental Management and MA in International Relations.
